What is Eid-ul-Adha?

Eid-ul-Adha, also known as the “Festival of Sacrifice”, is one of the two major Islamic festivals, the other being Eid-ul-Fitr. It takes place on the 10th day of Dhu-al-Hijjah, the last month of the Islamic lunar calendar, and coincides with the end of the Hajj pilgrimage.

The festival commemorates Prophet Ibrahim’s (Abraham’s) devotion to Allah (SWT) and his willingness to sacrifice his son, Ismail. Allah intervened and replaced Ismail with a ram, showing that it was a test of faith.

Muslims around the world mark this occasion by performing Qurbani (sacrifice) of a halal animal such as a sheep, goat, cow, or camel. The meat is then divided into three parts: one-third for the family, one-third for friends, and one-third for the needy.

Eid prayers are held in congregation in the morning, followed by festive meals, giving of gifts, and time spent with family and friends. Celebrations can last from two to four days, depending on the country.

On this blessed occasion of Eid-ul-Adha, we extend our warmest wishes to all our students, families, and community members.

May this Eid bring peace, happiness, and countless blessings to your homes. Let us remember the spirit of sacrifice, compassion, and unity that this festival represents.

Eid Mubarak!
